The burden of cancer is growing globally due to aging and adoption of westernized lifestyle like physical inactivity,smoking etc. Every year nearly 10 million people are diagnosed and 6 million die of cancer globally. Cancers of lung, breast and colorectal region constitute 12.3%, 10.4% and 9.4% of total cancers cases respectively across the globe. Cancer is one of the leading causes of mortality in India. 6 % of all reported deaths are due to cancer. In 2013 there were 14.9 million incident cancer cases, 8.2 million deaths, and 196.3 million DALYs. Prostate cancer was the leading cause for cancer incidence (1.4 million) for men and breast cancer for women (1.8 million). Tracheal, bronchus, and lung (TBL) cancer was the leading cause for cancer death in men and women, with 1.6 million deaths. TBL cancer was the leading cause of DALYs (24.9 million) for men and breast cancer was the leading cause of DALYs (13.1 million) in women. Affect of gender roles: Susceptibility Stomach cancer is found more in men. The presumed cause is reflux esophagitis, related to a combination of things like late night eating, alcohol or coffee consumption, and smoking. Higher alcohol consumption predisposes men to greater risk of liver cancer (10,000/year versus 5300/year).
